The makers
The arcade & makers
Behind the Victorian glass of the restored arcade, a new generation of makers is setting up benches next to traders who've kept shop for decades.

The arcade is the town's front room again — workshop units behind original shopfronts, craft sessions with kids' faces painted by mid-morning, and a busker's set drifting under the glass roof on Saturdays.
Look through the windows and you'll see things actually being made: textiles, prints, frames, repairs — the working end of a town that never stopped being good with its hands.
New units open as makers move in, so no two visits look the same. Walk it end to end; it only takes five minutes, and it's the best five minutes in town.
