I've lived here most of my life

Every market needs people walking through it. Steve has done that here for decades. We stopped him on Market Place to ask what he makes of the works.

Market Place on a bright weekday: a textiles stall under a Kirklees Council canopy, Blissful Moments across the way, and a steady stream of people cutting through.

Steve was one of them. He stopped long enough to answer three questions.

“It's a good place to come and shop if you know what you're looking for.”

Tell us who you are

Hi, I'm Steve. I've lived here most of my life.

What do you make of the works going on?

There's a lot of developments going on at the moment to try and improve the footfall in the Dewsbury town centre. I think it'll be good when it's finished.

As you can see today, there's a lot of people on the market. I'm sure there are plans in place to improve Dewsbury as a town.

Has it got better?

I think it has got better in some ways — not always, but in the main it's a good place to come and shop if you know what you're looking for.

People are generally okay, and value for money is good. So on the whole, it's a good place to come.
